Homers in seventh help Mud Hens sweep
Tyler Collins hit the tying home run in the seventh inning and Omar Infante followed with the go-ahead shot to give the Toledo Mud Hens a 7-4 victory over the Clippers on Saturday and a sweep of their doubleheader at Huntington Park.
In the opener, the Mud Hens scored four runs in the sixth inning and won 6-3.
The Clippers fell to two games behind Indianapolis in the International League West.
In the second game, the Clippers took a 4-3 lead in the sixth on Ronny Rodriguez’s solo homer. But Infante and Collins each hit solo shots off Adam Plutko (5-11) in the seventh to take the lead.
Collins added a tworun homer in the eighth to finish the scoring.
The Clippers grabbed 2-1 lead in the third when Michael Martinez hit an RBI triple and scored on a Yandy Diaz groundout. Jordan Smith singled in a run in the fourth to make it 3-1.
The Mud Hens scored a run in the fifth and sixth to tie it at 3.
In the second game, JaCoby Jones hit a two-run triple, Matt den Dekker hit a run-scoring double and Collins had a sacrifice fly in the sixth to give the Mud Hens a 6-3 lead against Clippers starter Julian Merryweather.
Merryweather (3-3) went 6 ⅓ innings, allowing six runs and eight hits.
Mud Hens starter Anthony Vasquez (6-7) struck out seven and walked five while allowing three runs.
