Iglesias turns back Brewers’ rally

- From wire reports

MILWAUKEE — Raisel Iglesias earned his sixth two-inning save of the season, and the Reds avoided blowing an eight-run lead to hold on for an 11-10 victory over the Brewers on Friday.

The Brewers scored seven runs in the sixth to pull within a run at 10-9, but Tucker Barnhart answered with a homer in the top of the seventh to give the Reds a little breathing room before Wandy Peralta pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh and Iglesias pitched two innings for the save.

Iglesias didn’t make it easy on himself or the Reds, loading the bases in the eighth and then bringing up the go-ahead run in the ninth in the person of Ryan Braun.

Brewers second baseman Jonathan Villar hit a one-out home run in the ninth off of Iglesias to pull the Brewers within one. Eric Thames followed with a single to center, bringing up Braun with one out.

Braun popped up to Eugenio Suarez in foul territory for the second out, and Travis Shaw then struck out on three pitches.

Feldman to start

Scott Feldman will make his first start in nearly a month Saturday when he is activated from the disabled list to pitch against the Brewers.

“It’s been pretty annoying being on the DL,” Feldman said before Friday night’s game. “I’m just happy to get back out there.”

Feldman made just one start since the All-Star break because of inflammation in his right knee, lasting one inning against the Nationals on July 17. He’d been dealing with the pain in his knee for much of the year but had been able to pitch through it.

Before going on the disabled list, Feldman led all Reds pitchers in starts and innings, as well as wins, strikeouts and quality starts. Feldman is 7-7 with a 4.34 ERA in 19 starts. He was 3-2 with a 2.92 ERA in six starts before the All-Star break.

Trade finalized

The Reds sent minorleague first baseman Kevin Franklin to the Braves to complete the Feb. 13 trade of Brandon Phillips to Atlanta.

The Reds received left-hander Andrew McKirahan and right-hander Carlos Portuondo in exchange for Phillips and a player to be named. The Reds released Portuondo earlier this season and McKirahan is recovering from ulnar collateral ligament surgery.
