CRIME STOPPERS

It’s been more than a year since Bobbie Bonner’s body was found in a roadway. It had been dumped at the intersection of the westbound Interstate 70 off-ramp and East Livingston Avenue, where she was struck by at least one car about 2:40 a.m. on July 19, 2016.

For that reason, the Accident Investigation Unit of the Columbus Division of Police was called out to investigate Bonner’s death as a traffic fatality. However, an autopsy later revealed that she had been shot twice, which resulted in her death, said Columbus police homicide detective Robert Connor.

After receiving the information about how Bonner died, Connor returned to the intersection where her body had been discovered. But because 12 hours had passed, there wasn’t much of a crime scene, he said. Her case has remained cold. As part of Central Ohio Crime Stopper’s Crime of the Week, Connor hopes that someone comes forward with information about Bonner’s killer.

“She didn’t deserve to die the way she did,” Connor said. “Somebody must have seen something.”

Police were able to determine that Bonner, 46, was last seen at a Shell gas station at 1937 E. Livingston Ave. on the South Side. She was walking east on Livingston with an unidentified man toward the freeway underpass. Connor has not been able to determine a motive in her death.

Bonner’s family described her as “a free-spirited and independent person.”

“Although she had struggles in life, she loved her son dearly. She was known for her kindness in the community and was well-liked,” said the obituary that ran in The Dispatch after her death.

A reward is being offered to anyone who might have information leading to the arrest or indictment of Bonner’s killer. Tipsters remain anonymous.

Anyone with information can call 614-461-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip online at stopcrime.org.
