Bolstering troops could stem attacks

-

I respond to the Aug. 22 Dispatch article "President stepping up Afghan war," which related to the government’s authority to provide for the common defense of America from outside forces.

In his speech addressing the new military procedure, President Donald Trump stated that his “original instinct” was to get all troops out of Afghanistan. But now, after a review with his top military advisers, he believes that is the wrong thing to do.

Stating that “...all of my life I’ve heard that decisions are much different when you sit behind the desk in the Oval Office. In other words, when you are president of the United States.” He seems to have become a little more wary of the ripple effects of his decisions in politics. He concluded that any of “the consequences of a rapid exit are both predictable and unacceptable.”

This is where Trump began to persuade me to believe this is the right course of action. I believe Trump’s warning where he stated that “a hasty withdrawal would create a vacuum that terrorists — including ISIS and al-Qaida — would instantly fill, just as happened before.” I think an increased military presence will help to treat the plague of terrorist organizations spreading and sprouting in the area, and that it will ultimately help to prevent another series of attacks against the American people like the ones that occurred in 2001.
