Best Buy, Macy’s bring same-day delivery to Columbus
Best Buy and Macy’s have announced that they will expand same-day delivery of products purchased online to Columbus and other cities.
Best Buy will launch the service — for purchases made through BestBuy.com — to Columbus and 13 other cities starting Wednesday.
Customers will be able to place an order online as late as 3 p.m. local time and receive the package by 9 p.m. that day. Same-day delivery is available seven days a week — although Sunday deadlines are an hour earlier — and the price per order for the service has dropped to $5.99.
Same-day deliveries will be handled by two companies that use a crowd-sourced labor model, including Best Buy’s original partner, Deliv.
Best Buy launched sameday delivery in the San Francisco Bay area in late 2015 and expanded it to 12 more cities in 2016. Best Buy expects customers in nearly 40 cities will be offered the service by the holiday season.
Macy’s, meanwhile, announced that, in the fall, it will expand its same-day delivery of products purchased online at macys.com, bloomingdales.com and both brands’ mobile apps to Columbus and 14 other markets.
Macy’s delivery orders must be placed by 1 p.m. local time, Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. Sunday to ensure same-day delivery.
The fee is $8 for all online purchases that meet Macy’s ($99) or Bloomingdale’s ($150) free-shipping thresholds. It will cost the $8 plus standard shipping costs for tabs that are less. Deliveries to customers will continue to be handled by Deliv.
Macy’s rolled out its first same-day delivery city in 2014 and now offers the service in 15 markets. Bloomingdale’s same-day delivery markets is in 11 markets.
