Designer has new uniforms for workers

- By JD Malone

White Castle understands that it is a little different. So instead of having its employees outfitted by a major uniform company, the Columbus-based hamburger chain turned to a New York City fashion designer.

Workers at the home of the 88-cent slider with cheese will wear snazzy blue duds created by Telfar, an upand-coming design house that sells polo shirts for $150.

Telfar is named for Telfar Clemens, who along with his creative partner, Babak Radboy, came up with a uniform for White Castle that combines the look of a collared shirt with the comfort

of a T-shirt. It uses White Castle’s classic colors and logo.

Why did Clemens want to work with White Castle? Well, it turns out that he is a longtime fan of the restaurant.

“There’s a White Castle right by my apartment, and I’ve been going there my whole life,” he said in a press release.

In fact, last year, Telfar hosted a New York Fashion Week post-event party at a White Castle store.

Telfar has been designing unisex clothing since 2005, but just recently, he’s made waves in the industry. He is a finalist for the 2017 Council of Fashion Designers of America/Vogue Fashion Fund, a contest aimed at cultivating emerging fashion talent.

The uniforms are just the beginning of the collaboration. White Castle will release an apparel collection for customers designed by Telfar next month.

“The possibilities are truly endless,” said Jamie Richardson, vice president at White Castle.
