The Columbus Dispatch

Police officers must stay strong

-

I was a police officer for 28 years, six with the Newark, New Jersey, police department and 22 with the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey police.

On 9/11, my partner and 36 Port Authority officers were murdered by Muslim terrorists, as were many of our fellow Americans. The press loved us then as it does when we are in a box, having been murdered by the monsters we deal with every day. The press and politicians love the fact that they have brave men and women to handle the bad guys for them.

As for Columbus Mayor Andrew J. Ginther, his background is dubious at best, and as for The Dispatch, read it today and wrap your garbage in it tomorrow.

I encourage Jason Pappas, president of the Fraternal Order of Police Capital City Lodge No. 9, to stay strong. As someone who was first vice president of the Port Authority Police Benevolent Association, I know firsthand how the city and those who do its bidding fight as hard as he has to for Columbus police officers.

Police officers continue to protect the good people of Columbus and must do their job, even if they get no backing from the top.

Most importantly, the FOP must look after and take care of its fellow officers. If we don’t take care of each other, no one will. Stay safe!
