THE TRIP: This inn-to-inn tour, showing the splendor of the Italian Alps, is geared toward walkers of modest abilities. The seven-night trip takes travelers from Lake Maggiore to Lake Orta, with about 6 to 11 miles a day.

Guests will see stupendous views of lakes, islands and mountains, with plenty of Italian culture, food and wine along the way.

Travelers spend two nights on charming Isola dei Pescatori before ascending to a small resort high on the mountain of Mottarone. Other stops include the World Heritage Site at Sacro Monte di Orta and the island of Isola San Giulio on Lake Orta.

Trips are available through early November and again next year from late March to early November.
