Independen­ce runs past Africentri­c in City South rout

Independen­ce piled up 516 yards rushing and beat visiting Africentri­c 76-40 in a City League South Division game on Friday night.

Demontae Taylor led the 76ers (5-0, 2-0) with 201 yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns. Drew Collins added 167 yards on 16 attempts with four TDs, and Zion Johnson had 146 yards and two scores.

Leading 48-34, the 76ers pulled away with 24 points in the fourth quarter.

Jaron Anderson passed for two touchdowns and ran for another to pace the Nubians (1-4, 0-2). Angelo Summerall hauled in both of Anderson’s TD passes.

Independen­ce gained 642 total yards. fourth-quarter touchdowns to lift Whetstone (2-3, 2-0) to a City North win over host Linden (2-3, 0-1). With the score tied 6-6, Johnson ran for a 12-yard touchdown and caught an 8-yard TD pass from Terris Crider.

Quarterbac­k Nate Hall ran for 89 yards on 24 carries and helped Briggs (3-2, 1-1) pull away from host South (2-3, 0-2) in a City League South game. With Briggs leading 3-0 at halftime, Hall gave the Bruins a 10-point lead on a 6-yard run in the third quarter and threw a 56-yard TD pass to Mareo Turner in the fourth.

Marion-Franklin (5-0, 2-0) scored five of the game’s last six touchdowns to pull away from host West (2-3, 0-2) in the City South. Ke-zion Brown accounted for five touchdowns, three passing and two on the ground, and threw for 153 yards. Jesse Johnson added a fake-punt touchdown pass in the first quarter for the Red Devils.

Lucas (4-1) built a 44-7 lead on the way to a blowout win over host Centennial (1-4).
