Hartley rides ground attack to win over Kilbourne
Alexander Blackmon ran for two short touchdowns in the first quarter, helping host Hartley roll to a 45-17 nonleague win over Worthington Kilbourne on Friday night.
Anthony Whitney, Jalan January and Mason Sawyer also rushed for touchdowns for the Hawks (4-1), who amassed 292 yards on the ground and led 31-0 at halftime. Phillip Cole added four receptions for 104 yards.
Jordan Kirkbride returned a fumble 5 yards for a score to give Hartley a 21-0 lead in the second quarter. Caleb Andrick and Parker Wereb each had TD runs in the fourth quarter for the Wolves (2-3).
Casey McGinness rushed for 183 yards and two touchdowns, and Kentucky power Covington Catholic (6-0) handed visiting DeSales (3-2) its second straight out-of-state drubbing. Colton Hilleary gave the Stallions a 7-0 lead on a 70-yard TD run before Covington Catholic took over. Nicholas Demchuk completed 22 of 29 passes for 233 yards and a pair of TDs to lift host Cleveland Benedictine (4-1) to a nonleague win over Watterson (1-4). Cole Andrews threw for 223 yards and a pair of TDs for Watterson, but he was intercepted five times. The Eagles managed just 1 yard rushing. Ryan Wood intercepted a pass near midfield as visiting Ready (4-1) hung on to beat Liberty Union (3-2) in a nonleague contest. Jack Foley rushed for 91 yards and Austin Aiello passed for 144 and a score to lead the Silver Knights.
