Granville holds off Licking Heights’ rally
Brandon Haley had TD runs of 6 and 1 yards to steer Granville to a narrow 24-21 victory at Licking Heights in a Licking County League Buckeye Division game on Friday night.
Haley’s two scores, in addition to Cameron Crouch’s 11-yard TD run and Craig Zies’ 32-yard field goal, allowed the Blue Aces (5-1, 1-0) to mount an early 24-7 advantage.
Jacob Righter threw a 51-yard touchdown pass and had a 6-yard TD in leading the late charge by the Hornets (4-2, 0-1). added 115 yards rushing and had the game’s first touchdown for the Green Wave.
Connor McLaughlin’s 87-yard touchdown run in the third quarter punctuated a victory by Licking Valley ( 6- 0, 1-0) over visiting Lakewood (0-6, 0-1) in the LCL Buckeye. McLaughlin fi nished with 116 yards rushing and caught a 20-yard TD pass from Jake Lewis, who completed 9 of 11 passes for 142 yards and two scores. Tyler Karr only had three completions, but all three resulted in scores, and host Heath (2-4) routed Watkins Memorial (1-5) in nonleague play. Two of Karr’s TDs went to Treyton McCoy. Karr went 3 of 9 for 172 yards. Heath intercepted three passes. Bryce Barasch rushed for 162 yards and three touchdowns in leading host Johnstown (4-2, 1-0) to its 12th straight victory over Northridge (4-2, 0-1) in the LCL Cardinal.
Brian Asamoah rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries, and visiting DeSales (4-2, 1-1) blanked St. Charles (1-5, 0-1) in the Central Catholic League. Asamoah had scoring runs of 25 and 50 yards, respectively, and the Stallions limited St. Charles to 70 total yards, all rushing. Hartley (5-1, 1-0) amassed 446 yards rushing on the way to shutting out host Watterson (1-5, 0-1) in the CCL. Alexander Blackmon led the Hawks with 135 yards on 11 carries, Elijah Carter added 120 on 15 carries, and each scored a touchdown.
Brandon Coleman threw two touchdown passes and visiting Teays Valley (4-2, 3-0) capitalized on four turnovers by Fairfield Union (3-3, 0-2) in a Mid-State League Buckeye Division game. Eric Yates rushed for 123 yards on 21 carries and transfer Adjrain Settler scored in his Vikings debut after sitting out the first five games. Brett Carson also kicked two 42-yard field goals.
Ethan Higgins ran for a pair of scores and Lance Lambert ran and passed for one score each as visiting West Jefferson (6-0, 1-0) defeated Fairbanks (3-3, 0-1) in Ohio Heartland Conference play. Wyatt Dillion amassed 167 yards on 20 carries with a TD for the Roughriders. Jacob Nicols threw three touchdown passes to pace Fairbanks.
