Wisconsin holds off Wildcats

-

MADISON, Wis. — Jonathan Taylor ran for two touchdowns to help the offense overcome a sluggish start and No. 10 Wisconsin’s defense swarmed Northwestern before holding on for a 33-24 win on Saturday.

Alex Hornibrook threw for 197 yards and a touchdown, settling down after two interceptions in the first half. Garrett Dooley had three of Wisconsin’s eight sacks as the Badgers improved to 4-0 overall, 1-0 Big Ten.

Northwestern’s last drive was thwarted when quarterback Clayton Thorson couldn’t find a receiver out of his own end zone and was sacked by safety D’Cota Dixon for a safety.

Thorson was having a good quarter until then, throwing two touchdown passes in less than 2 minutes. The second to Garrett Dickerson with 2:53 left got the Wildcats (2-2, 0-1) within a touchdown. NO. 4 PENN STATE 45, INDIANA 14: DaeSean Hamilton caught nine passes for 122 yards and three touchdowns and became Penn State’s career receptions leader in the Nittany Lions’ victory over the Hoosiers in State College, Pennsylvania. Penn State (5-0, 2-0) turned two firstquarter turnovers into touchdowns to spark the rout. The Hoosiers (2-2, 0-2) turned the ball over on their second play of the game when Morgan Ellison coughed it up to linebacker Jason Cabinda after an 18-yard gain. MICHIGAN STATE 17, IOWA 10: Brian Lewerke threw two touchdown passes to Felton Davis in the first quarter, and Spartans held off the Hawkeyes in East Lansing, Michigan. The Spartans (3-1, 1-0) dominated early, and their defense forced two crucial turnovers in the third quarter. Iowa (3-2, 0-2) managed only 19 yards rushing and has now lost its first two conference games for the first time since 2008. Davis surpassed his career high in receptions before halftime and finished with nine for 114 yards.
