I might vote against Big Pharma

-

My compliments to The Dispatch on the excellent Wednesday editorial “Ohioans should vote no on Issue 2,” which concisely laid out all the flaws of State Issue 2, and urging people to vote against it. But the editorial did not address the one and only reason I have to vote for Issue 2 — Big Pharma is providing millions of dollars to the campaign against it!

As Nicholas Kristof pointed out in his Friday op-ed “Corporate greed has fueled the deadly opioid crisis,” 75 percent of the folks hooked on opioids today began their path to perdition with prescription painkillers promoted by Big Pharma. If Big Pharma fears ballot issues, even poorly conceived ones like Issue 2 that would not hurt it, then I am very tempted to vote for Issue 2. Issue 2 is a California mess, but perhaps it is a push down a slippery slope that will empower the electorate to take on Big Pharma through the ballot box.

Lord knows politicians who take millions from Big Pharma for their campaigns have not been getting the job done.

Lou Jannazo Columbus permitted by law to sell guns that we Americans who are not felons are able to buy. So far no law is broken.

The law that was broken was when these felons or to-be felons illeg lly broke into the shop and stole 26 handguns. These guns will be on the streets to commit crime.

When any representative can draw up a gun bill that will stop people who don’t respect the laws we already have, then I will sign my name on that bill. When and if these people are caught, I’d bet they will serve little or no time. People like this need to be put away for life.

These guns will be taken out of state and that will be in the hands of the federal courts. Will the federal courts do any better? I believe not. The lawmakers are the problem.
