Northland joins three-way tie atop North

J.J. Branham scored on a 30-yard run and intercepti­ons by Mark Lee and Jesse Prewitt III helped visiting Northland seal a 39-32 victory over Beechcroft on Friday night, forcing a three-way tie atop the City League North Division standings.

Northland (7-3, 5-1) snapped a six-game losing streak to Beechcroft (5-4, 5-1) and ended the Cougars’ 25-game win streak in City North play.

Northland, Beechcroft and Mifflin shared the title.Play was suspended when the benches cleared with 23 seconds remaining. Mike White threw two touchdown passes and Kalil Branham returned a kickoff for a TD for Northland.

Shemar Samuel scored two TDs for Beechcroft.

Luchene Davis scored the winning touchdown on a 4-yard run with 3:11 left to lead visiting Centennial (4-6, 3-3) over Whetstone (3-7, 2-4) in the City North. The Stars rallied from an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter. Jayden Gilbert threw a 13-yard TD pass to Marquise Scott midway through the final quarter for Centennial. Gilbert passed for 148 yards and ran for 106 yards. Terris Crider ran for a touchdown and passed for one for Whetstone.

Savon Edwards Jr. totaled 227 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns as Eastmoor Academy (6-4, 5-2) blanked visiting Africentri­c (1-9, 0-7) in the City South. Edwards caught a 39-yard touchdown pass, returned a kickoff 70 yards for a score, had 48 yards on two punt returns, including a 40-yard TD and rushed for 70 yards. Africentri­c’s offense produced minus-5 total yards.

Mike White rushed for 242 yards and three touchdowns as West (5-5, 3-4) beat Briggs (4-6, 2-5) in the City South. Christian White added 99 yards on the ground for West, which led 28-8 at halftime. Elijah Dillon ran for 72 yards and a touchdown run for Briggs.

Ke’Zion Brown completed 11 of 19 passes for 234 yards and two touchdowns, helping playoff-bound MarionFran­klin (8-2, 5-2) beat South (3-6, 1-5) in the City South. Maleek McIntosh ran for two TDs for Marion-Franklin.

Wardell Link passed for 156 yards and two touchdowns and Armon Mackey rushed for 158 yards for host East (1-9, 1-5) in a City North victory over Linden (2-8, 0-6). Shaq Edwards caught a 35-yard TD pass for the Tigers.
