Prep’s Bangura sets state rushing mark

Daniel Bangura ran for 335 yards and six touchdowns and became the leading rusher in Ohio high school history as host Harvest Prep clinched the Mid-State League Cardinal Division championsh­ip with a 90-7 rout of Fairfield Christian on Friday night.

Bangura broke the record on a 19-yard run up the middle with 41 seconds left in the first quarter to surpass the 9,426 yards gained by Tyrell Sutton of Akron Hoban from 2001-04. All six of Bangura’s scores were in the opening quarter as the Warriors (9-1, 7-0) stormed to a 50-0 lead.

Bangura now has 9,441 career yards.

Javon Eggert added 133 yards and a TD on the ground for Harvest Prep, which gained 653 yards of total offense. Caleb Collins passed for 114 yards and a touchdown for the Knights (1-9, 1-6). defeat Logan Elm (1-9, 0-6) in the MSL Buckeye. Kuhns completed 6 of 8 passes for 142 yards. The Bulldogs returned two intercepti­ons for touchdowns and limited the Braves to 149 yards.

Tyler Wolfe’s 115 yards rushing and two touchdowns paced host Fairfield Union (6-4) to a nonleague win over Liberty Union (3-7). Zach Shinn passed for 237 yards for Fairfield Union. Brent McClure led Liberty Union with 184 yards on 11 carries.

Cameron Crouch threw for five second-half touchdowns, four in the third quarter, and Granville (8-2, 3-1) outlasted host Watkins Memorial (2-8, 1-3) in an Licking County League Buckeye game. Crouch completed 13 of 28 passes for 257 yards. Zack Walsh caught two scoring passes in the third quarter to give Granville a 45-28 lead. Brandon Haley rushed for 202 yards and a first-quarter TD for Granville. Casey Music threw for 250 yards and three touchdowns for Watkins Memorial and Gabe Shroyer rushed for 147 yards and three touchdowns.
