QB Weirick helps Pickerington North roll
Quarterback Jimmy Weirick passed for 194 yards and a touchdown and ran for 172 yards and two scores in leading Pickerington North to a 41-20 victory at Huber Heights Wayne in a Division I regional quarterfinal Friday.
Ty Wiley also had a big game for the Panthers with eight receptions for 168 yards and two TDs.
North pulled away when Nick Giardina returned an interception 15 yards for a touchdown with 5:26 remaining in the third quarter to stretch its lead to 34-20.
The Panthers outgained Wayne 459-121 in total yards and racked up 24 first downs to 12 for the Warriors.
North totaled four interceptions, and cornerback Tyler Potts held Ohio State recruit L’Christian Smith to two catches for 16 yards.
The Panthers will attempt to avenge a 27-26 regular-season loss to Centerville in a regional semifinal in a rematch on Friday. Josh Stewart’s 41-yard touchdown pass to Daevon Anderson late in the first quarter sparked a 42-0 run for No. 2 seed Hilliard Bradley, which cruised past visiting Kettering Fairmont. Stewart completed 16 of 21 passes for 200 yards and three touchdowns, including a 30-yarder to Anderson to close out the scoring. Anderson finished with 122 yards on six receptions for the Jaguars, who will play Pickerington Central in a regional semifinal.
Thirdseeded Pickerington Central ran for five touchdowns, including two by Jeremiah Wood, in a romp over visiting Northmont. Demeatric Crenshaw led the rushing attack with 108 yards, and Jaqwon Crawford iced the game with an 80-yard pick six to give the Tigers a 41-7 lead.
Ross Harmon ran for a pair of touchdowns, and Alec Grandin passed for a pair of scores as top-seeded Centerville blanked visiting Hilliard Darby. The Elks led only 7-0 at halftime but exploded in the second half for four scores.
