A 40-year-old Wisconsin man who police said had arranged to meet with a missing 12-year-old Newark girl has been charged with kidnapping and gross sexual imposition.

Christopher J. Forncrook, of Pewaukee, was arrested at a Dublin hotel early Tuesday and booked into the Licking County Jail.

The case began Monday when Newark Police were called at 6:30 p.m. by parents worried that their daughter had not returned home. The girl had left on a bicycle between 3 and 3:30 p.m. and had not returned by dark, which was her usual behavior. The girl does not have a history of being a runaway and was in a pleasant mood, according to the family.

Newark Police detectives learned with the family’s help that the girl had communicated online with Forncrook and that there was a plan to meet in Newark.

The girl returned home about 10:30 p.m. Monday and was evaluated by medical personnel and interviewed by the Licking County Kids Team. The multi-agency team, which includes Licking County Children Services and Licking Memorial Health Systems, responds to reports of children being sexually or physically abused.

Police did not comment on the girl’s condition. Newark and Dublin police interviewed Forncrook at the Dublin hotel about 1 a.m. Tuesday and then charged him with kidnapping and gross sexual imposition. The Licking County prosecutor’s office said it would review other possible charges.

Newark Police credited the family for locating the girl by using the parental access they had over her phone and online activity.
