Trump corrected our nation’s course

-

In his Monday letter, Wayne Hanners said, as the headline indicated, “History shows US is on bad course” because our nation is heading toward fascism, and he suggested that President Trump is akin to Adolf Hitler. This is a classic case of coming to the correct conclusion, but basing that conclusion on a false premise.

Fascists believe that all aspects of society — banking and commerce, the media and the press, education — are subservient to the government and that the individual has no worth except in his or her ability to serve and promote that government.

In his first nine months in office, Trump has rolled back or eliminated hundreds of regulations that were strangling business activity and has fought hard to ensure that the right to practice one’s religion will not be compromised. These actions are opposite what any fascist would do.

So why do I say that Hanners came to the right conclusion? Because there are signs that fascist ideology is gaining momentum in this country, as evidenced by the misnamed Antifa group using violence to prevent speakers at college campuses; a new California law that can fine and imprison a health-care worker who uses a pronoun that offends a transgendered person; and continuing efforts to “fundamentally transform America.”

Trump might be a lot of things people dislike — crass, crude, belligerent, and perhaps even a narcissist and “consummate liar” as Hanners suggested. However, Americans should thank God every day that he won the presidency and is fighting against the forces that would, in fact, lead us to a fascist state.

Robert Sells Delaware Trump’s “attempts to erase everything the president and his administration accomplished.”

Ambrose’s article illustrated how much significant damage President Obama accomplished in his eight years of sophisticated incompetence. It detailed Obama’s costly and dangerous failures and betrayals, including the fatally flawed Obamacare program, Obama bypassing Congress to implement the foolhardy Iran nuclear deal, and his unconstitutionally rewriting laws, intervening in state and local affairs and refusal to enforce federal laws.

A few failures not mentioned include Obama’s irresponsible doubling of the deficit to our current $20 trillion (more debt accumulated than all previous U.S. presidents in history combined); his use of government agencies to illegally spy on ordinary U.S. citizens, and use of the Internal Revenue Service to silence his enemies.

There are two congressional investigations, including one looking into corruption for selling 20 percent of the U.S. uranium supply to Russia, and more are likely to follow.

In addition to the damage done domestically, Obama’s weakness internationally has threatened U.S. security as he has dangerously emboldened Russia, North Korea, Iran, Syria and China. Based on Obama’s “legacy,” the sooner it can be repaired, the sooner our country will be able to recover.
