Top five unchanged in playoff rankings

- From wire reports

With three games matching teams in the selection committee’s top 10, the College Football Playoff race could become a lot clearer on Saturday. Or more muddled. Georgia, Alabama, Notre Dame and Clemson held their spots in the top four of the selection committee rankings Tuesday night, and unbeaten Miami moved up three spots to No. 7 before its showdown with the Fighting Irish.

Oklahoma remained fifth and TCU moved up to sixth. The Sooners and Horned Frogs play a key Big 12 game on Saturday, with the winner taking sole possession of first place in the conference.

Notre Dame visits the Hurricanes on Saturday night, and Georgia is at Auburn, which came in 10th. After Miami in the rankings, unbeaten Wisconsin was No. 8, the highest-ranked Big Ten team. The Hurricanes jumped over Wisconsin after beating Virginia Tech handily last Saturday. The Badgers pulled away late in a rout of Indiana.

UCLA’s Rosen may play this week

UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen is on track to play against Arizona State on Saturday after missing last week’s loss at Utah with a concussion.

Rosen returned to practice Tuesday, and offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch said the junior will be back in the starting lineup provided he clears concussion protocol.

Minnesota tackle facing discipline

Minnesota offensive tackle Donnell Greene is facing discipline from Gophers coach P.J. Fleck that will carry over to Saturday’s game against Nebraska after the junior starter swung and hit a Michigan player last week.

Fleck condemned Greene’s actions following the game and reiterated Tuesday that “internally, he’ll pay the price.”

Gus Ragland threw three touchdown passes and host Miami (4-6, 3-3) beat Akron (5-5, 4-2) in the Mid-American Conference on Tuesday night. Ragland tossed a 30-yard TD to Kenny Young and a 19-yarder to James Gardner in the third quarter to give Miami a 24-7 lead. Young rushed for 100 yards on 14 carries and caught nine passes for 98 yards.

Tyree Jackson passed for 406 yards and three touchdowns to lead host Buffalo (4-6, 2-4) past Bowling Green (2-8, 2-4) in the MAC. Jackson hit 23 of 37 passes with no interceptions. Jarret Doege threw three touchdown passes for Bowling Green.
