A Columbus woman died in a drive-by shooting Thursday afternoon while preparing a Thanksgiving meal on the city’s Northeast Side.

Adrian L. Scott, 34, was fatally shot just before 1 p.m. inside a house in the 2000 block of Hiddenspring Drive. She was pronounced dead at 1:21 p.m. at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, said Sgt. Stan Latta of the Columbus police homicide unit.

Scott did not live in the house where she was shot, Latta said.

“It’s just as bad for the family on any day. The only thing I would think is every Thanksgiving they’ll probably think about this,” he said.

A man who identified himself as the uncle of Scott’s boyfriend said there were five people inside the house when the shooting occurred. Scott was standing at the kitchen table preparing macaroni and cheese when shots rang out, he said.

“I went straight to the floor. We all did,” said the man, who declined to give his name out of fear of retribution.

Multiple shots were fired at the house, Latta said. Police did not disclose any suspects or motives in the shooting and did not release a description of the vehicle involved.

Scott’s death is the city’s 121st homicide of 2017. The city set a record for homicides in 1991 with 139.

Anyone with information about the shooting can call the Columbus police homicide unit at (614) 645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at (614) 461-TIPS (8477).
