16 area players earn statewide honors

Selections were based on recommenda­tions from a statewide media panel. The teams were formerly under the auspices of the Associated Press.

Jackson made 46 receptions for 990 yards and 11 TDs in the regular season. Shaw was the linchpin of an offense that rushed for 300 yards per game. Hubbard made 108 tackles (31 for loss) with nine sacks. Facione had 85 tackles (27 for loss) with 20 sacks. Shellenbar­ger totaled 90 tackles (24 for loss) and 23 sacks.

Wilson made 148 tackles and seven sacks. Vance had 53 tackles and three intercepti­ons. Davis made 126 tackles (12 for loss) and four sacks. Sesay had eight intercepti­ons and 51 tackles.

The offensive player of the year was quarterbac­k Joey Baughman of Wadsworth. Linebacker Cris Oats of state finalist Cincinnati Winton Woods won the defensive honor. Winton Woods’ Andre Parker was coach of the year.

In Division III, the top award winners were running back Ra’Veion Hargrove of Trotwood-Madison and quarterbac­k Ja’Vez Alexander of Sandusky, linebacker Chase Kline of Chardon and coach Jeff Graham of state finalist Trotwood-Madison.

Area players making the first team were running back Demontae Taylor of Independen­ce, receiver Zaire Porter of MarionFran­klin, offensive linemen Chad Douglas of Independen­ce and Travis Geiger of Marion-Franklin, defensive lineman Ethan Amaya of Hartley and linebacker­s Max Stienecker of Hartley and Ty Van Fossen of DeSales.

Taylor rushed for 2,156 yards and scored 21 TDs. Porter made 40 receptions for 987 yards and 12 TDs. Douglas anchored an offense that rushed for 330 yards per game and scored 40 points per game. Geiger was a three-time, first-team all-district choice. Amaya made 65 tackles (5.5 for loss) with five sacks. Stienecker was Hartley’s MVP, recording 107.5 tackles (14 for loss) and excelling on the offensive line as well. Van Fossen, a Cincinnati commit, had 95 tackles (16 for loss).
