Morris, Wizards fend off Pistons

WASHINGTON — Markieff Morris shook off his recent struggles to score 23 points, Tomas Satoransky added a career-high 17 points off the bench, and the Washington Wizards beat the Detroit Pistons 109-91 on Friday night for their first home win in nearly three weeks.

Otto Porter Jr. added 17 points, and Marcin Gortat had 12 points and 12 rebounds for Washington, which improved to 2-2 without All-Star point guard John Wall since he received injections in his swollen left knee.

The Wizards outscored Detroit 35-15 in the third quarter, the Pistons’ lowest-scoring period of the season, to secure their first home victory since Nov. 13.

Andre Drummond had 14 points, 17 rebounds and seven assists for the Pistons, who were outrbounde­d 49-32. 26 points, Jakob Poeltl made all eight of his field goal attempts and had a career-high 18 points and Toronto beat Indiana for its sixth straight home victory. Victor Oladipo scored a season-high 36 points for Indiana.

Paul George had 35 points and nine assists to help Oklahoma City beat Minnesota at home and snap a threegame losing streak. Steven Adams had a career-high 27 points on 11-for-11 shooting from the field and Russell Westbrook added 15 points, 14 assists and nine rebounds for Oklahoma City. Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins scored 23 points each and Jimmy Butler added 22 for the Timberwolv­es. LaMarcus Aldridge had 22 points, Rudy Gay added 18 off the San Antonio bench and the Spurs extended Memphis’ losing streak to 10 with a road victory over the Grizzlies. Marc Gasol led Memphis with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert could be sidelined up to two months following surgery on his left knee. The team said he will begin rehabilita­tion and is expected to need 6 to 8 weeks to recover.
