Wrestlers take title in Vegas Invitation­al

The Ohio State wrestling team won the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitation­al team title on Saturday for the second straight year on the backs of Luke Pletcher, Myles Martin and Kollin Moore.

Pletcher defeated American’s Josh Terao 9-2 in the 133-pound division final, Martin won an 8-5 decision over Michigan’s Domenic Abounader in the 184pound final and Moore pinned Jared Haught of Virginia Tech in 1:52 in the 197 final.

The Buckeyes, who had four others place in the top four in their respective weight classes, totaled 155.5 team points. Michigan was second with 140. Ohio State on Friday, Jones made 16 saves in the second period Saturday on the way to his third career shutout. Penn State (9-7-2, 4-4-2-1) ramped up its offense with 18 shots on goal in the second period and 13 in the third, when it scored two goals apiece. Trevor Hamilton led the Nittany Lions with two assists. Sean Romeo made 32 saves for the Buckeyes (8-4-4, 3-4-1).

Women’s hockey

Ohio State (11-3-4, 8-2-4) earned its second consecutiv­e shootout victory over St. Cloud State (3-12-2, 1-2-1), skating to a scoreless tie in regulation, then winning the shootout point in a Western Collegiate Hockey Associatio­n game at the OSU Ice Rink. Liv Halvorson’s shootout goal was the only shot to find the net as both teams missed on their first two shootout attempts. St. Cloud State goalie Emma Polusny made 41 saves. Kassidy Sauve made 18 saves for the Buckeyes.
