UC avenges tournament loss to UCLA

LOS ANGELES — Kyle Washington scored 19 points, Jacob Evans III had 16 and No. 25 Cincinnati beat UCLA 77-63 on Saturday.

Cincinnati (9-2) grabbed control with an 18-0 run in the first half. It was a sweet win for the Bearcats, who lost to UCLA in the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season.

Aaron Holiday scored 17 points for UCLA (7-3), and Kris Wilkes finished with 12.

The Bruins grabbed a 21-18 lead on Prince Ali’s three-pointer with 6:59 left in the first half, but they didn’t score again in the half until Alex Olesinski made two free throws with 17.7 seconds to go.

NO. 10 XAVIER 68, EAST TENNESSEE STATE 66: Trevon Bluiett’s jumper with 6.3 seconds left completed Xavier’s rally from a 22-point second-half deficit and led the Musketeers (10-1) past East Tennessee State (6-4).

MARSHALL 99, OHIO 96, OT: Ajdin Penava set career highs with 33 points and 15 rebounds, C.J. Burks scored a career-high 31, and host Marshall (8-3) held off Ohio (5-5) in overtime. Jordan Dartis scored 27 points for Ohio. DAYTON 88, GEORGIA STATE 83, OT: Josh Cunningham sank the go-ahead free throws and finished with a career-high 29 points while grabbing 18 rebounds to help host Dayton (5-5) slip past Georgia State (7-4) in overtime.

OHIO WESLEYAN 82, KENYON 60: Seth Clark, an Olentangy graduate, scored 15 of his 21 points in the second half to lead Ohio Wesleyan (8-1, 4-0 North Coast Athletic Conference) past host Kenyon (4-4, 1-3). Grant Gossard added 17 points for Ohio Wesleyan.

BALDWIN WALLACE 83, CAPITAL 69: Visiting Baldwin Wallace (6-2, 3-1 Ohio Athletic Conference) shot 69 percent from the field in the first half on the way to a 44-26 halftime lead and cruised to a victory over Capital (4-6, 1-3). Cameron Caldwell, a freshman from Westervill­e South, led Capital with 26 points. MUSKINGUM 76, OTTERBEIN 71: Jarell Marsh scored 26 points and host Muskingum (4-4, 3-1 OAC) hit 5 of 6 free throws in the final 30 seconds to hold off Otterbein (0-9, 0-4). Justin Carter led Otterbein with 17 points.

HILLSDALE 72, OHIO DOMINICAN 67: Gordon Behr scored 19 points and host Hillsdale (11-2, 5-1 Great Midwest Athletic Conference) rallied from an 18-point second-half deficit to beat Ohio Dominican (6-5, 2-3). Hasan Varence scored 15 points for the Panthers.
