In a remote section of Westerville’s Glengary Shopping Center, Delaney’s Diner is pumping out many of the diner classics. The eatery opened in May in the former home of Best Breakfast & Sandwiches. The new owners have given the space a complete renovation, adding booth seating and expanding into the storefront next door.

Like its predecessor, Delaney’s serves breakfast and lunch seven days a week. The breakfast menu hits all the expected notes: three-egg omelets, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, French toast and corned-beef hash. They do the name of “diner” justice and deliver some unexpected tastes among the usual fare.

The aptly named Breakfast Conewich ($7.99), for instance, combines soft scrambled eggs, green peppers, grilled onions and cheese in a breaded

What’s a restaurant you enjoy for the atmosphere?

M restaurant (M at Miranova, 2 Miranova Place, Suite 100). Whenever I go, I feel like a princess. They know everything I like. I’ve had a couple birthdays on their patio. They have an amazing skyline view there. Joe, the manager, is one of the best. The attention to detail is truly amazing. I usually get a drink they don’t have on the menu called Berries & Bubbles ... I usually get the salmon. ... I never liked salmon until I got there.

What are your cone similar in taste and texture to a Pillsbury crescent roll. The hearty mixture spills out of the cone, making it a knife-and-fork dish more than a sandwich. The dish comes with a side of crispy hash browns (which I prefer over the regional favorite home fries).

The French toast ($8.99) is simple but easy to like: three slices of custardy challah bread dusted with powdered sugar and topped with generous scoops of melting butter. Roy Lee’s breakfast 45

regular spots?

I spend so much time in Gahanna, so I would have to say one of my favorite places to eat here is Barrel and Boar (121 Mill St., Gahanna; also at 5 N. 3rd St., Newark and North Market, 59 Spruce St.). They have this thing called the casserole ($5.99) bakes eggs, cheddar, mushrooms, sausage and croutons together in a small dish, delivered with a side of hash browns.

The substantial Big Daddy’s breakfast ($10.99) was a highlight. A slice of tender breaded and fried steak arrives covered in peppery sausage gravy and accompanied by two eggs, hash browns and biscuits. It’s enough to feed two.

Delaney’s offers child portions, too, such as eggs and toast, pancakes loaded chips. It’s in a cast-iron skillet. It has homemade chips. It’s loaded with cheese sauce. I get brisket (and) tomatoes and peppers.

Where do you go for dessert?

Koko Tea Salon (116 Mill St., Gahanna, and 361 E. Broad St.). They were on the Food Network. They have macarons, cupcakes, cakes, teas and coffee. It’s really good.

How about hidden gems?

Signatures Mill Stone Tavern (94 Mill St., Gahanna) is kind of a low-key spot. They do trivia night — like ‘80s

or French toast, all served with a choice of bacon or sausage (all $4.99). The true morning person will appreciate Delaney’s early bird special, a choice of two eggs, breakfast meat and toast for $3.99, available daily until 7:30 a.m.

The service is friendly and personable but can be a little slow. The renovation has increased the seating but the bustling kitchen appeared to have been untouched. At the end of our meal, we had to track down our busy server to pay our bill.

But by being patient with the servers, diners will be rewarded. trivia — and you get prizes. ... There’s a lot of bar food; it’s really good, though. I usually get pizza or quesadillas.

Where do you go on a budget?

Press Grill, that’s in the Short North (741 N. High St.). It’s diner food. It’s so good. Macaroni and cheese, wings, taco Tuesday. You can get a really good meal for $10. You can get a burger for $5.50. It’s really reasonable. They have everything you would really want.
