Carey to perform on New Year's Eve

-

Mariah Carey is set to headline ABC’s annual “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” performance on Sunday, despite having bombed the prior year’s performance.

“We can all agree that last year didn’t go exactly as planned and we are thrilled to move forward together to provide America with an incredible night of music and celebration on,” Dick Clark Productions and Carey said in a joint statement.

During last year’s performance, Carey, 47, was barely singing through most of it, declaring she couldn’t hear herself in the mic. She stood there in silence at one point with her hands on her hips while the backup dancers moved behind her.

She later cited “technical issues” for the headline-making fail, but producers had called her claims “absurd.”

Days after the performance went viral, Carey told Entertainment Weekly she was “mortified,” though she had previously tweeted “s--t happens” as her name started rising up the ranks of Twitter and Facebook.

“I’m of the opinion that Dick Clark would not have let an artist go through that and he would have been as mortified as I was in real time,” she said.

The “All I Want for Christmas is You” singer joins Nick Jonas, Camila Cabello and Sugarland for the evening affair hosted by Ryan Seacrest.

“Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” will begin at 8 p.m. Sunday on ABC, including WSYX-TV (Channel 6).
