Green Party has solid platform

-

News coverage concerning primary elections is important as a way of informing voters about the issues. Thus far, The Dispatch has not included coverage of Green Party candidates. In the upcoming election for governor and lieutenant governor, Constance Gadell-Newton and Brett Joseph are uncontested candidates for the Green Party. Voters have the right to be informed about the Green Party’s stance on issues such as health care, education, employment and clean air, water and soil.

The primary elections also provide an opportunity for people to choose their party affiliation. The Green Party “Constance for Ohio” platform includes full health-care coverage, free and quality public-school education from preschool through college, and solutions for creating local jobs and a strong local economy as part of the “10 Key” values.

These issues concern all Ohioans. For more information, contact Gadell-Newton at elect.conniegadell@ gmail. com. favor themselves over opponents. Out of public sight, politicians cherry-pick their voters instead of voters picking their politicians.

So the Fair Districts = Fair Elections campaign has generated a ballot initiative against congressional gerrymandering in Ohio. However, Ohio’s General Assembly leadership says it doesn’t want to give up control of the current closed-door congressional redistricting. And yet four of the seven members of Fair District’s proposed Redistricting Commission would come from the Assembly: two from the majority, two from the minority. In addition, the affirmative vote of four members of the commission, including at least two from the minority party in the legislature, will be required.

So in contrast to the unfair, undemocratic redistricting process supported by current legislative leadership, in Fair Districts’ proposal, the General Assembly does in fact retain significant control, but only as the negotiated result of an open bipartisan process, not a secret partisan one.

Voters should contact their representatives to insist that any redistricting plan must be democratic, fair, and — necessarily — transparent. Granville volume of students seeking counsel for anxiety and stress-related issues. I am not judging their perceptions, but goodness, who will guide and comfort them when they are exposed to the real world?

It would be interesting to know if any of those seeking help are practitioners of any religion or have any spirituality in their lives. Could the absence thereof be the missing link as to why so many people today cannot cope with day-to-day issues?

Perhaps representatives of the clergy should replace a few of these counselors with equal pay, or, as an alternative, help could be as close as the local welcoming church around the corner. Admission is free, and not exclusive to students.
