6-mile hike, soup lunch, ice fest set for Saturday

Thousands of chilly but enthusiast­ic hikers are expected for the 53rd annual Hocking Hills Winter Hike on Saturday.

The first hikers will set off at 9 a.m. with starts continuing until 11 a.m.

The 6-mile hike begins at the Old Man’s Cave parking lot, with hot bean soup served at Cedar Falls, the half-way point. A shuttle bus will bring hikers from Ash Cave back to the starting point. The event is free, although donations are encouraged.

After the hike, downtown Logan will host the Logan Frozen Festival, with more than 25 ice sculptures, ice-sculpting demonstrat­ions, ice corn-hole, music, food and activities for the whole family.

The event is part of a 14-concert series that celebrates various aspects of Zanesville’s cultural heritage.

Visitors can snack on hot dogs, corn dogs and mac and cheese and potentiall­y win free gifts. The first 100 children in attendance will also get a free gift.

And a free ride on the carousel will be offered when a special “surprise” guest rides.
