4th person arrested in fatal shooting
NEWARK — Police have arrested a fourth suspect in the weekend shooting death of a Newark man.
Dylan Warren, 16, of Lewis Center, was taken into custody at about 4:30 p.m. Monday during a traffic stop in Hebron, according to documents.
He was charged with juvenile counts of complicity to murder and aggravated murder and complicity to aggravated robbery. He is being held at the MultiCounty Juvenile Detention Center in Lancaster.
Newark police described Warren as “extremely cooperative and forthcoming” about the killing of David Barcus, 48, who was found shot in his bed at a Cherry Street residence early Saturday morning.
Three others — two adults and a juvenile — were arrested Sunday in connection with the incident.
Tyler Ocasio, 20, and Dustin Lehoe, 21, both of Newark, are being held on $1 million bonds. Both have been charged with aggravated murder.
Jaden Osborn, 15, also was charged with juvenile counts of complicity to murder and aggravated murder and complicity to aggravated robbery. He is being held at the same Lancaster juvenile facility as Warren.
Authorities say the four were involved in the shooting death of Barcus. According to court documents, they broke into a residence to steal money and drugs and fired shots. Barcus was pronounced dead later at Licking Memorial Hospital.
Video surveillance showed the suspects entering the home, then running out about a minute later. Shots were fired as they ran away, hitting a neighboring home, according to documents.
One of the juveniles involved told detectives that he was asked to take part in a robbery of money and drugs from someone with cancer, according to documents. The two juveniles involved also told detectives that they did not enter the basement of the house, where Barcus was shot.
Other residents of the house where the shooting occurred told emergency dispatchers early Saturday morning that someone kicked in the back door and shot Barcus, who was alive and can be heard in the background of a recording of a 911 call.
“I can see a shell casing … I’ve got a big blood stain here, ma’am,” the caller said. “My wife is downstairs with him now. We’re trying to talk to him, but he’s not responding to us real well.”
All four suspects have lengthy criminal records.
Warren has been charged in the past in Juvenile Court with resisting arrest, assault, escape and, in late December, failure to comply and obstruction of official business, according to documents.
After his arrest Monday, he was treated for an apparent gunshot wound that occurred sometime prior, though Newark police reported that the “circumstances surrounding that wound are still under investigation.”
Prosecutors have asked that Warren and Osborn be tried as adults.
The adult charges carry possible death sentences.
