Third-quarter run powers UA past Hilliard Davidson

Sarah Poling made seven three-pointers and scored 14 of Upper Arlington’s 24 thirdquart­er points to lead the Golden Bears over visiting Hilliard Davidson 63-52 on Friday night in the Ohio Capital Conference Central Division.

Poling finished 8 of 11 from the field for 23 points. She hit four threepoint­ers in the third, when UA broke free from a 28-28 tie to a 52-40 lead.

Macy Spielman added 17 points, including six free throws, for UA (14-4, 6-2), which made 8 of 9 from the line in the final quarter.

Audrey Kaufman led Davidson (7-10, 3-4) with 15 points.

Grace Pennington set a school record with six three-pointers and scored a career-high 21 points as host Olentangy (8-9, 4-4) posted an OCC Buckeye win over Westervill­e North (6-12, 3-5). Jessica Nation added 12 points for the Braves, who pulled away in the second half. Sommer Pitzer hit a key three-pointer late in the fourth quarter and Westervill­e South (13-5, 7-0) retained its lead in the OCC Buckeye with a win at Olentangy Liberty (8-9, 4-4). Pitzer’s basket pushed the Wildcats’ lead to 53-47. Gabby Hutcherson had 16 points and Pitzer 14 to pace South. Kennedy Kashmiry topped Liberty with 22 points, including four three-pointers. Maggie Crozier hit 9 of 11 free throws and finished with 15 points to help Worthingto­n Kilbourne (5-14, 2-8) edge host Hilliard Darby (10-8, 4-5) in OCC Cardinal play.

Reagan Willingham had 10 fourth-quarter points as part of a 14-0 run for Teays Valley (9-5), which beat host Hilliard Bradley (7-9) in a nonleague game. Willingham finished with 16 points. Teneea Heston had 16 points for Bradley, which pulled as close as 52-48. Mahogany Loveless scored a career-high 28 points, lifting host Linden (9-6, 8-3) to a City North victory over Beechcroft (9-8, 6-6). Eighteen of her points came after halftime when the Panthers pulled away.
