In addition to the two Athletes of the Week, The Dispatch recognizes top performers in some sports in season: WESTERVILL­E SOUTH, BOYS BASKETBALL McMillian, a 6-foot junior guard, had 45 points, 10 assists and four steals in wins over Olentangy and Johnstown. He shot 18 of 30 from the field.

Jalin Bethel’s reverse layup with 1.8 seconds remaining in overtime sealed a 67-65 comeback victory for Olentangy Orange over visiting Westervill­e Central on Friday night in the Ohio Capital Conference Buckeye Division.

Bethel, who finished with 30 points, scored after receiving an inbound pass under the basket with 4.8 seconds left. He scored 11 points in the fourth quarter, including a game-tying basket and a foul with a minute left in regulation to force OT, and made 10 of 13 free throws overall.

Matt McCollum added 14 points, including three three-pointers in the third quarter to help the Pioneers (11-6, 3-4), who never led during regulation, rally from an 37-19 halftime deficit.

Thomas Hickman led Central (11-4, 3-4) with 25 points. Jordan McMillian hit a pullup jumper with 2.3 seconds remaining and Westervill­e South (11-4, 4-3) escaped with an OCC Capital victory over visiting Olentangy Liberty (8-7, 3-3). Ben Roderick, who led Liberty with 17 points, gave the Patriots a 50-48 lead with 3:06 left in the game, but the Wildcats held possession for the next 184 seconds before McMillian (14 points) drove the lane and converted the winning basket.

Elijah Thurston made all seven of his shots from the field, all from three-point range, and finished with 22 points to help host Reynoldsbu­rg (11-5, 3-3) pull away from Grove City (10-6, 2-4) in the OCC Ohio. Thurston hit three in the first half and four in the second. With the score tied at 59 with 1:40 remaining, Ben Fort, who added 18 points, sparked a 7-1 run with a basket and a foul, followed by a steal and layup by Tre Williams (16 points). Dominic Reinier paced Grove City with 14 points. Dane Goodwin hit 16 of 18 free throws and scored 13 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter to lift Upper Arlington (13-1, 6-0) to an OCC Central win over host Hilliard Davidson (7-8, 2-4). Gavin Baker, with 16 points, was one of four players in double figures to help host Worthingto­n Kilbourne (5-12, 4-5) upset Hilliard Darby (10-6, 6-2) in the OCC Cardinal. Jelani Simmons, Datrey Long and Therron Jennings each scored 19 points to help host Beechcroft (13-1, 9-0) build a 53-26 halftime lead on the way to a City North win over Linden (8-6, 4-5). Simmons also had eight rebounds, eight assists and five steals. David Brown had a gamehigh 27 points for Linden. Sean Tyson scored Centennial’s final six points, a three-pointer and three free throws, over the final 90 seconds and the Stars (8-7, 5-4) defeated host East (10-4, 7-3) in the City North. Taylor finished with 14 points and Gary Elder led the way with 25 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Justin ShipmanCur­tis led East with 23 points.
