Bridges, Spartans win their third game in a row
Miles Bridges scored 24 points and No. 6 Michigan State beat Wisconsin 71-62 on Friday night in East Lansing, Michigan.
The Spartans (19-3, 7-2 Big Ten) have won three straight after losing two of the previous three games.
Wisconsin (10-12, 3-6) has lost five of six.
Bridges was 8 of 13 overall and made 4 of 6 three-pointers.
“Adding the 3 to his game has made him a harder guard,” Wisconsin coach Greg Gard said. “Obviously, he’s explosive to the rim and he does a good job of putting it on the floor.”
Cassius Winston had 17 points and six assists, and Nick Ward of Gahanna had 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Spartans.
Wisconsin’s Ethan Happ had 23 points and seven rebounds.
The game was played less than 12 hours after Michigan State athletic director Mark Hollis announced his retirement amid the outcry over how the school handled allegations against Larry Nassar. The court was surrounded by a sea of teal T-shirts worn by students to raise awareness about sexual violence.
“Honoring our survivors was really neat that our students did it,” Michigan State coach Tom Izzo said.
Nick Perkins scored 20 points, Ikenna Smart and Jeremy Harris posted doubledoubles and Buffalo (16-5, 8-0 Mid-American Conference) beat Ohio (9-11, 2-6) in Athens. Perkins reached 1,004 career points, Smart had 10 points and a career-high 14 rebounds and Harris 17 points and 10 boards for the Bulls, who have won eight consecutive conference games for the first time since 2011-12. Teyvion Kirk had 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Bobcats.
UConn men under NCAA investigation
The University of Connecticut is the target of an NCAA investigation into its men’s basketball program.
Hearst Connecticut Media, which first reported the investigation, cited unidentified sources saying the inquiry was related to recruiting.
The university didn’t specify the allegations and said it would have no further comment.
