Olentangy tops Orange in two OTs

Sean Marks scored 11 of his career-high 40 points in the two overtime periods and host Olentangy outlasted Olentangy Orange 87-84 in an Ohio Capital Conference Buckeye Division boys basketball game Friday night.

Marks, who came in leading the area in free throw shooting at 96 percent, went 13 of 13 at the line from the second half on and finished 15 of 17 overall. Alex Sieve added 18 points for the Braves (10-9, 2-7), who trailed 32-24 at halftime.

Luke Ballinger hit a three-pointer with seven seconds left in the first overtime to make it 72-72. Marks then missed a three-point try as time expired.

Matt McCollum had 18 of his 20 points after halftime to pace Orange (12-8, 3-6). Bryson Lane added 19 and Jalin Bethel 18 for the Pioneers.

Olentangy sank 29 of 38 free throws, Orange 9 of 12.

Canal Winchester (11-9, 5-4) hit 13 of 15 free throws in overtime to outlast host New Albany (6-13, 5-5) in an OCC Capital game. Cole Metzler and Brady Snyder led the Indians with six and five points, respective­ly, in OT. Stanton Smith scored all seven of his points from the line, six in overtime. Jake Warriner had 15 points for the Eagles.

Tre Williams scored 23 points and visiting Reynoldsbu­rg (13-7, 4-5) handed stateranke­d Pickeringt­on North (17-3, 8-1) its first OCC Ohio defeat. The Raiders outscored the Panthers 18-8 in the third quarter to take command. Jerome Hunter had 31 points for North, which never led in the fourth quarter.

Fueled by a 27-2 run, Westervill­e Central (13-7, 5-4) downed visiting Olentangy Liberty (10-10, 4-5) in the OCC Buckeye. Thomas Hickman led the Warhawks with 24 points and Cam Schroeder added 13. Each had six points in helping to outscore Liberty 20-2 in the fourth quarter.

Brothers Luke and James Lachey keyed an 18-0 run to close the third quarter and host Grandview (16-3, 7-2) knocked off Columbus Academy (15-3, 6-3) in a Mid-State League Ohio game featuring two of three teams tied for the division lead. Luke Lachey had 18 points, James Lachey 15 for Grandview, which has won nine straight. Academy, led by Dorrian Moultrie’s 16 points, held a 24-16 halftime lead, but lost its third straight game.

Zach Wilson’s 22 points, eight in overtime, helped complete a comeback win for Worthingto­n Kilbourne (9-12) over host Watterson (10-9) in nonleague action. Wilson tied it with a minute left in regulation, then made all six free throws and basket as the Wolves went 10 for 10 from the line and made all three shots from the field in OT. Wilson finished 14 of 14 from the line and the team converted 21 of 22 overall. Zach Sawyer led the Eagles with 19 points.
