529 money can go for K-12 schooling
COLUMBUS — Ohio families can now use money in their state 529 savings plan to pay tuition for religious and private schools for children from kindergarten through high school.
Spending is capped at $10,000 per student per year, according to the Ohio Tuition Trust Authority, which manages Ohio CollegeAdvantage 529 plans.
The change is part of federal tax reform enacted by Congress last fall.
Traditionally, money in such plans had to be spent on posthigh school costs for tuition and other expenses.
