Leaders should represent best in us

-

We have heard about a lot of punches being thrown at women by men in power lately. Last week it was revealed that the man who sees everything that goes in and out of the Oval Office, even the highest classified information, could not get security clearance because he is accused of beating his two former wives. The White House knew about this for a year, but continues to call him a fine person. Two battered wives don’t seem to bother our White House.

This is the administration that called a grieving military widow a liar and attacked the congresswoman who defended her. An administration that bragged about grabbing and kissing women uninvited. An administration that insinuated that a woman wouldn’t have the endurance to be president. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi proved that wrong.

In our state government, we have had two men, Sen. Matt Huffman and House Majority Leader Bill Seitz, belittle women with derogatory remarks while speaking at a podium of power.

When one sees a picture of a woman with a black eye, I hope one also hears the sound of a man’s fist slamming into a woman’s face. I hope one would try to feel the pain and humiliation these women feel. This is not OK!

When words and actions are used to punch a woman and keep her in her place, this is not OK!

Apologies are not enough. Our government should consist of people who represent the best in us, not the worst. Women and all those who respect and love them should vote these men out of office.
