Dartis has hot hand in overtime as Ohio beats Miami

ATHENS, Ohio — Jordan Dartis scored 23 points, including the go-ahead basket in overtime, to lift Ohio past Miami University for a 92-87 win Saturday in the MidAmerica­n Conference.

Dartis, a Newark graduate, had seven of Ohio’s 13 points in the extra period and put the Bobcats (11-15, 4-10) on top for good with a put-back that made it 88-87 with 49 seconds to play. Teyvion Kirk added 18 points, Kevin Mickle got 12 and Doug Taylor chipped in 10 for Ohio, which shot 52 percent from the field to pick up its second win in the past eight games.

Miami (13-14, 6-8) trailed by as much as 15 midway through the second half but erased the deficit with a 13-3 run capped with a pair of free throws from Nike Sibande to tie it at 79 at the end of regulation and force overtime.

Bam Bowman hit two quick buckets to put Miami on top early in the extra period before Ohio dug in, with Dartis and Kirk each getting a pair of free throws in the final 19 seconds to seal it.

BALL STATE 99, TOLEDO 71: Tayler Persons and Ishmael El-Amin scored 18 points apiece and host Ball State (18-9, 9-5) led the entire game to throw some cold water on red-hot Toledo, beating the Rockets (19-8, 11-3). Persons opened the game with a layup and Ball State charged out to a 10-0 lead and didn’t let Toledo — which had only lost twice since Jan. 2 — get closer than four points.

KENT STATE 78, AKRON 68: Jaylin Walker tossed in 27 points, sinking 7 of 12 shots from three-point range, and Kent State (13-14, 7-7 MAC) pulled away late to beat Akron (11-15, 4-10) to snap a four-game losing streak. Malcolm Duvivier finished with 27 points for the Zips and Daniel Utomi scored 20.

CAPITAL 85, JOHN CARROLL 80: Austin Schreck scored 22 points to lead host Capital (11-13, 7-10) to a victory over Ohio Athletic Conference leader John Carroll (20-4, 14-3). Cameron Caldwell scored 14 points for Capital and Gavin Wildermuth had 12. MOUNT UNION 86, OTTERBEIN 77: Corey Howard had 33 points for visiting Otterbein (1-24, 1-17) in an OAC loss to Mount Union (13-12, 9-9).

OHIO WESLEYAN 99, ALLEGHENY 64: Nate Axelrod, a Dublin Coffman graduate, scored 17 points and Seth Clark of Olentangy added 15 as Ohio Wesleyan (17-8, 12-6) cruised past Allegheny (5-20, 2-16) in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
