Nov. 7, 1988: Mall owner Jacobs, Visconsi & Jacobs Co. announces a new look. Floors and ceilings will be remodeled, a new south mall entrance will be built, and a new seating area and 17 skylights will be installed.
Jan. 30, 1989: Lazarus officials say work will begin soon on remodeling ITS store, with one key element being an atrium.
1993: The Eastland Mall theater closes.
October 17, 1997: F.W. Woolworth ends 85 years of business in Columbus as its stores at Eastland Mall and Downtown close.
Nov. 18, 1998: A new mall entrance, a dozen more stores and a food court open, the first major enhancements to the mall in nine years.
Dec. 25, 2003: The Dispatch reports that Glimcher Realty Trust is paying $29.7 million to buy the 35-year-old Mall. In addition, plans are announced for a 120,000-square-foot, one-story Kaufmann’s department store.
July 28, 2005: Kaufmann’s announces its Eastland Mall store will open in October and be converted to Macy’s in 2006. The current Macy’s will close.
July 27, 2007: The Dispatch reports that the Macy’s store will be razed to make way for a new JCPenney prototype.
April 25, 2014: Glimcher Realty Trust plans to auction the shopping venue that reportedly is 76 percent occupied.
Aug. 6, 2014: Unable to find a buyer, Glimcher Realty Trust walks away from the property, relinquishing ownership to the mortgage servicer.
Jan. 8, 2015: JCPenney says it will close its store in the spring.
Feb. 25, 2015: The mall is back on the auction block, with a minimum asking price of $5 million.
May 1, 2015: Eastland Mall is sold for $9.7 million to Eastland Mall Holding, according to the Franklin County auditor’s office.
January 2017: Macy’s announces it will close its store, leaving Sears the last anchor.
June 7, 2017: Sears says its latest round of store closings will include Eastland Mall.
