3 Democrats don’t qualify for statewide ballot
An emergency room doctor who loaned his fledgling gubernatorial campaign $1.5 million did not qualify for the Ohio ballot, the secretary of state’s office said Wednesday.
The failure of Cleveland Clinic Dr. John Heavey to make the ballot reduces the Democratic field to six candidates.
The Democrats also lost a pair of down-ticket hopefuls: auditor candidate Kelli Prather and treasurer aspirant Neil Patel.
All of the Republican candidates who met the filing deadline qualified for the May primary ballot. That means the down-ticket races have only a single primary, for GOP treasurer.
The official Democratic field for governor and lieutenant governor: Richard Cordray and Betty Sutton; Larry E. Ealy and Jeffrey Lynn; Dennis John Kucinich and Tara L. Samples; Bill O’Neill and Chantelle C. Lewis; Paul E. Ray and Jerry M. Schroeder; Joe Schiavoni and Stephanie Dodd.
The GOP matchup remains Mike DeWine and Jon Husted vs Mary Taylor and Nathan D. Estruth.
Constance Gadell-Newton and Brett R. Joseph make up the unopposed Green Party ticket.

Attorney general: Democrat Steve Dettelbach, Republican Dave Yost.
Auditor: Democrat Zack Space, Republican Keith Faber.
Secretary of state: Democrat Kathleen Clyde, Republican Frank LaRose.
Treasurer: Democrat Rob Richardson, Republicans Sandra O’Brien and Robert Sprague.
U.S. senator: Democrat Sherrod Brown, Republicans Melissa Ackison, Don Elijah Eckhart, Mike Gibbons, Dan Kiley and Jim Renacci.

To qualify for the official ballot, major-party candidates must obtain 1,000 valid signatures of registered Ohio voters. Minor-party candidates need 500 valid signatures.
