Liberty girls rally past New Albany in district

A technical foul call that resulted in a fivepoint swing midway through the fourth quarter catapulted visiting Olentangy Liberty to a 51-41 victory over New Albany in a Division I girls tournament game Friday night.

Leading 40-38, New Albany missed a free throw and was called for a foul, plus a subsequent technical foul. The sequence keyed a 13-1 finishing run for 23rd-seeded Liberty (13-11), which notched its second straight win over a higher-seeded opponent.

Lauren Spicer had 14 points, Emma Humenay 12 and Kelly Levering 10 for the Patriots, who outscored the Eagles 20-5 in the fourth quarter. Micaylah Nash had 13 points and 13 rebounds for New Albany (13-10), the 15th seed. points and Charlea Henley added 16, helping sixthseede­d Northland past visiting Thomas Worthingto­n (11-9) in Division I tournament play.

Kobie Burnside hit 8 of 13 three-point shots and scored 28 points and Carlisa Strickland added 21 points, 10 steals and six assists to power thirdseede­d Independen­ce (19-5) over visiting MarionFran­klin (2-19) in Division II tournament play.

Anna Hartig had 11 points for host Lancaster (14-10), which held off a fourth-quarter rally by Licking Heights (10-12) for a Division I tournament win. Megan Davis scored 15 points and 11th-seeded Lakewood (11-12) upset fifth-seeded Bexley (16-7) in a Division II tournament game. The Lancers led at every quarter stop.
