Ready girls’ free throws seal win

Ready made 14 of 18 foul shots in the fourth quarter and repelled visiting West Jefferson 47- 43 in a Division III girls basketball sectional final Saturday.

Derricka Bramwell totaled 21 points and 11 rebounds for the ninthseede­d Silver Knights (14-9), who fought out of a 16- 6 hole.

Katelyn Wolfe added 13 points. Bramwell, Wolfe and Dani Hall combined to make 19 of 24 free throws for Ready.

Freshman Gabbie King hit six of 12 three- pointers — five in the first half — for 18 points to pace 12thseeded West Jefferson ( 16- 7).

BERNE UNION 41, MADISON CHRISTIAN 40: Freshman Bella Kline scored a career-high 25 points and added six rebounds and four blocks as secondseed­ed Berne Union (21-4) survived a scare from visiting Madison Christian ( 17- 7) in a Division IV sectional fi nal. WELLINGTON 37, GRANVILLE CHRISTIAN 30: Savannah Childress scored 14 points and Jacquie Sierzputow­ski added 12 as sixth-seeded Wellington ( 15- 9) built a big lead and withstood a late charge to defeat Granville Christian ( 15- 8) in a Division IV contest. MOUNT VERNON 59, DUBLIN SCIOTO 58, OT: Kaden Daniels scored a careerhigh 32 points and added six steals as host Mount Vernon (16-7) edged Dublin Scioto ( 12- 11) in Division I tournament play. Cole Rapp’s two free throws with 26 seconds remaining in overtime accounted for the fi nal margin. Scioto’s Dapreis Owens had 25 points but missed a potential tying foul shot in the waning seconds.

OLENTANGY 58, HILLIARD DARBY 55: Sean Marks scored 24 points, and host Olentangy (14-9) held off a late charge by Hilliard Darby ( 12- 11) for a Division I tournament win. Olentangy, which squandered an 18-point third- quarter lead, went 15 for 18 from the freethrow line in the fourth quarter to hang on. Marks went 9 of 10 from the line in the period and 13 of 14 in the game. Josh Govine had 17 points for Darby. WESTERVILL­E CENTRAL 47, DELAWARE 39: Thomas Hickman scored 21 points to lift host Westervill­e Central (16-7) over Delaware ( 10- 13) in Division I play. Leading only 38-36 with 1:57 remaining, Central pulled away at the free- throw line. Nate Griggs had 16 points for the Pacers, who lost two starters to injury during the contest.

Hockey

DUBLIN JEROME 4, SPRINGBORO 3, 4 OT: Carter Patchett scored the game-winner in the fourth overtime period, helping Jerome past Springboro in a district quarterfi nal. Patchett was assisted by Nick Augenstein and Ryan Jenkins. Augenstein also scored a goal.

UPPER ARLINGTON 1, ST. CHARLES 0: Max Hamlin scored a fi rst- period goal, and Cam Keller made 26 saves, helping UA edge St. Charles in a district quarterfin­al. The Golden Bears won the season series 3- 2.

Gymnastics

With a winning score of 145.425 points, Thornville Sheridan ran away with the Central District gymnastics championsh­ip at Worthingto­n Kilbourne. Runner-up Olentangy advanced to the state for the third straight year with 139.5 points. Thirdplace Hilliard Bradley ( 135.425) qualified for the fi rst time.

Dublin Coffman senior Bethany Hurt won the allaround title with a score of 37.0 points. Sheridan claimed the next five spots. Hurt took fi rst place on the floor ( 9.45), tied for first on balance beam ( 9.35), tied for second on vault (9.125) and tied for third on parallel bars ( 9.05).
