Men’s track team wins first Big Ten indoors since 1993

Ohio State won the meet-closing 4x400-meter relay in school-record fashion and captured its first Big Ten indoor men’s track championsh­ip since 1993 on Saturday at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

The relay, made up of Asa Burke of East, Nick Gray of Pickeringt­on North, Drelan Bramwell and Andrew Jeff won in a school record of 3 minutes, 5.09 seconds to secure the title with 101.5 points, eight points better than runner-up Nebraska. OSU entered the race just two points ahead of the Cornhusker­s.

Gray also won his third 200 title (20.45), lowering his own meet and school mark and establishi­ng the No. 2 time in the nation this season. The junior has now won eight indoor and outdoor Big Ten titles.

Other Buckeyes winners were Nick Demaline in the shot put (66 feet, 5 inches), Zack Bazile in the long jump (26-4½) and Cole Gorski in the pole vault (17-3¾).

Ohio State’s women tied for third with 75 points. Minnesota was the champion with 91½ points.

Sade Olatoye of Dublin Coffman won the shot put (56-8) and took second in the weight throw (79-11½) with a school record. The only other Buckeyes champion was Chantel Ray in the 60 hurdles (8.21).

Baseball

Ohio State scored eight runs in the top of the ninth inning and beat Utah 20-13 in the Big 10/ Pac-12 Challenge Saturday in Surprise, Arizona. Malik Jones, Kobie Foppe and Brady Cherry each collected two-out, twoRBI hits in the ninth. Noah McGowan went 5 for 7 with four RBI to lead the Buckeyes, who pounded out 24 hits.

Women's hockey

Maddy Field and Tatum Skaggs scored two goals each and Emma Maltais added another as host Ohio State (23-9-4) beat Minnesota State 5-2 in the first round of the Western College Hockey Associatio­n playoffs. Lauren Boyle had three assists and Amanda Zegler made 29 saves for the Buckeyes.

Men's hockey

Christian Lampasso and Mason Jobst each scored two goals, and host Ohio State (21-8-5, 14-8-2-1) handed Wisconsin (14-174, 8-13-3-1) a 4-0 defeat. Tommy Napier made 31 saves for the Buckeyes.
