Shots erupted outside a South Side bar in the last week of 2017, leaving a man dead. His killer has not been caught.

A bartender called police about 2:15 a.m. on Dec. 28 to report that someone was wounded in the rear parking lot of the Sandpebble Lounge, 1913 Lockbourne Road. When first responders arrived, they found 62-year-old Carl William Duncan with a gunshot wound. Paramedics pronounced him dead at 2:25 a.m.

Duncan had last been seen talking to a man standing next to a silver vehicle, according to police. Duncan had just left the bar, and he was shot before he reached his car.

As part of Central Ohio Crime Stoppers’ Crime of the Week, investigators hope that someone comes forward with information leading to Duncan’s killer. A reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest or indictment.

Detectives hope to talk to two men who had been fighting in the bar earlier that night.

In the past two years, police have responded to numerous calls at that location, including two stabbings, nine fights, three reports of a person with a knife, three reports of a person with a gun, three assaults and another shooting, according to records.

Anyone with information may call 614-461-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip online at stopcrime.org. Tips also may be submitted by downloading a free application called P3 Tips onto a smartphone. Tipsters remain anonymous.
