Last-second basket lifts Virginia Tech over Duke

BLACKSBURG, Va. — Chris Clarke tipped in a missed shot with four seconds remaining on Monday night, and Virginia Tech stunned No. 5 Duke 64-63 in an Atlantic Coast Conference game.

The Hokies (21-9, 10-7) trailed almost the entire game before a jumper by Nickeil Alexander-Walker sailed over the rim and Clarke grabbed it and laid it in. AlexanderW­alker led the Hokies with 17 points.

Grayson Allen led Duke (24-6, 12-5) with 22 points, but his threepoint try before the buzzer missed.

Wendell Carter Jr. grabbed the rebound, but the clock ran out before his layup went through.

The Hokies celebrated another marquee victory that boosts their NCAA Tournament prospects. They also have a road victory at No. 1 Virginia and a home win against No. 18 Clemson. Udoka Azubuike scored 20 points on 10-of-11 shooting as host Kansas (24-6, 13-4) took control in the first half in beating Texas (17-13, 7-10) for the ninth straight time in Big 12 play. Kerwin Roach II led the Longhorns with 18 points. Jevon Carter scored 21 points and Daxter Miles Jr. added 18 in their final home game, and West Virginia (22-8, 11-6) rode a hot start to a Big 12 victory over visiting Texas Tech (22-8, 10-7). The Mountainee­rs rolled to a 16-0 lead with Carter scoring seven points and Miles hitting a three-pointer on the way to breaking a second-place tie with the Red Raiders. Jarrett Culver scored 26 points and Niem Stevenson added 24 for Texas Tech, which lost its fourth straight.

Women

Azura Stevens scored 21 points and Gabby Williams added 18 points and nine assists on senior night as host Connecticu­t (29-0, 16-0) completed an undefeated regular season for the 10th time in program history with an American Athletic Conference win over South Florida (24-6, 13-3). The Huskies are 98-0 in games against AAC opponents: they are 86-0 in the regular season and have won all four conference tournament­s. Kitija Laksa scored 14 points for the Bulls, who lost for the first time in 10 games. UConn led 29-12 after 10 minutes and 50-26 at halftime.

Family of Spartans’ Bridges ate with agent

Michigan State said its compliance office discovered that the family of forward Miles Bridges dined with an agent last winter without his knowledge, committing an NCAA violation. The school said the finding on Friday made Bridges ineligible, leading it to apply for reinstatem­ent, which was granted the next day by the NCAA.
