Leggings, tank tops inspired by avocado

- By Allison Ward

Anyone who frequents Chipotle knows that guacamole costs extra.

It has become a tagline of sorts — culturally assigned because the burrito mogul charges a few extra bucks for a side serving of avocado dip.

“I think guacamole is synonymous with Chipotle,” said Hannah Lewis, a company field-marketing strategist based in Columbus. “Guac is extra, and we always have to tell people that. There are Etsy shirts that say, ‘Guac is extra.’

“I think our guacamole is the best,” she continued, “and we want to be the ‘goto’ for anything about guac.”

Which is why Lewis and her bosses jumped at the chance to partner with Bend Active, a Columbus-area fitnesswear company, to sponsor a design contest.

The challenge: Fashion a pair of avocado-inspired leggings and tank top.

The competition seemed like a no-brainer for avocado-loving Rarinthorn Thammakulkrajang, a frequent customer of Bend, located in the Shops at Lane Avenue in Upper Arlington.

For her entry, she channeled the geometric-shaped mandala (using avocados, of course) in her top and kept the pants simple.

“I didn’t want to do too much avocado — it’s really minimal, with some on the top of the band (of the leggings),” said Thammakulkrajang, 31, a food-science doctoral student at Ohio State University. “There are abstract avocado lines on the side of the pants.”
