Sean Kelly loves soccer. The native of England bleeds the red of his Premier League team, Liverpool FC.

He sympathize­s with Columbus Crew fans, calling the prospect of his new hometown team relocating to Austin, Texas,“heinous.”

And there's still time to act, Kelly said.

“I guarantee you, if the Nationwide­s and the Huntington­s of this city came to Precourt and said, ‘Here’s everything we ever gave the Blue Jackets and the Clippers’ — as an investor, he can’t refuse.”

Kelly examines the issues in his film, "Save the Crew: The Battle for Columbus," which will screen twice on Friday (the day before the Crew's home opener against the Montreal Impact) at the Gateway Film Center.

The filmmaker and Crew players from the inaugural 1996 team and the 2008 MLS championsh­ip team will be on hand to answer questions. (The 7 p.m. screening has sold out; tickets remain for the 9:30 screening.)

Kelly, 37, of Lewis Center, has worked in television for 15 years, primarily as a statistici­an and researcher for Formula 1 racing on Speed Channel, NBC Sports and CBS Sports. He moved to Columbus in 2016 to be nearer his girlfriend (now his fiancee), Courtney Kelley.
