German Village panel reviews plan for hotel
A boutique hotel could be on the way to Livingston Avenue in German Village.
The German Village Commission gave its first review of the proposed five-story, 129-room hotel at its meeting last week, the first step toward allowing the project to advance.
No brand has been identified for the hotel, which would be at 31-33 E. Livingston Ave. No renderings were submitted by the applicant, Jonathan Barnes Architecture & Design.
A site plan shows the hotel built in an L-shape around a historic home on East Blenkner Street that would remain.
The site consists of a surface parking lot and a onestory office building dating to the mid-20th century that would be razed. Commission members did not object to the demolition of that building, which is considered “non-contributing” to the neighborhood’s historic nature.
Plans call for the hotel to have a ground-floor fitness center and a rooftop lounge and deck overlooking Downtown to the north.
The property is owned by Carl Fry, according to city records. A call and email to Jonathan Barnes seeking comment from project representatives were not returned.
The approximately 59,000-square-foot hotel would be tall by German Village standards, and the neighborhood is known to be strict about maintaining its character. 300 feet Source: maps4news.com/©HERE GATEHOUSE MEDIA
