Beechcroft, South fall in regional semifinals

R.J. Sunahara scored 18 points and hauled in 19 rebounds to help power Bay Village Bay to a 67-59 victory over Beechcroft in a Division II regional semifinal at Bowling Green on Thursday.

The Rockets (20-6) opened an early 6-0 lead, but struggled from beyond the arc in the first half, missing their first seven attempts before making two late in the second quarter.

The Cougars (25-2), led by Elijah Bishop and Datrey Long with 14 points apiece, closed the first quarter on an 11-2 run for a three-point lead. Sunahara’s basket to end the half tied the game at 24.

Daniel Brajdic, who added 12 points for Bay, hit two threepoint­ers to spark a 21-11 third-quarter run and the Rockets led by at least eight for the remainder of the game.

Bay, which faces Lexington in a regional final on Saturday, made five three-pointers in the second half.

TrotwoodMa­dison (24-3) overcame a nine-point halftime deficit to outlast South (22-5) in a Division II regional semifinal at Kettering Fairmont. Amari Davis scored 30 points and Myles Belyeu added 20 as the Rams won their 17th straight game heading into a regional final against Cincinnati Hughes on Saturday. The Bulldogs, trailing 19-14, went on a 14-0 run to take a 28-19 lead. But Trotwood trimmed its deficit to 36-34 by halftime. Davis then dropped 17 points and Belyeu 10 in the second half as the Rams outscored South 45-24. Jeremiah Green paced South with 13 points. Tre’ohn Watkins added 11 and Marcus Johnson finished with 10.
