Browns GM likes what he has seen from Mayfield

and one touchdown in Philadelphia’s 41-33 victory. Danny Amendola led the Patriots with 152 yards receiving and Chris Hogan had 128. All four were undrafted free agents.

Accumulating more picks, especially in the later rounds, certainly helps a team’s chances of adding a solid contributor. Minnesota, which lost the NFC title game, has eight draft picks, including five on Day 3.

“Sure, you’re going to have your misses. But, the more swings that you get at the plate, the better odds you have of hitting the ball,” Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said. “If you only get to bat twice, you’ve got maybe a 50-50 chance. If you get to bat 10 times, hopefully your 50-50 chance, your odds have increased pretty good. I think it’s taking as many swings as you can down in those later rounds.” into the building, he made this sound. He just kind of came out of nowhere. He kind of went, ‘Hee, hee!’ “coach Hue Jackson said. “And all the players in the building started going, ‘Hee, hee!’ And here they go. It’s the most unbelievable thing I’ve ever seen. That shows you something about what he means to young men and how he leads them. And that’s who Baker Mayfield is.”

The Mayfield buzz could be an attempt to get another team to try to trade up. The Jets at No. 3 are said to like Mayfield.

Teams also like Allen, who’s raw but has tremendous upside potential if he can continue to improve his accuracy, which has already come a long way since the end of his season. Allen was the “it’’ pick for the Browns last week.

The draft is the Browns’ first under Dorsey, and they have the No. 4 overall pick in addition to No. 1. Some reports have indicated that Dorsey has kept others, including Jackson, out of the loop on his decisionmaking process. But Sam Wyche of the NFL Network, who has been embedded with the team, said otherwise.

Wyche said Dorsey told him that he met with Jackson and coordinators Todd Haley and Gregg Williams on Tuesday and they went over the final draft board “so they can make sure that everyone they plan to take was a schematic fit.”

He said, “Owner Jimmy Haslam has seen the final draft board and has signed off on everything.”

Wyche also said he has spoken to Haslam.

“In terms of Hue Jackson being out of the loop, not true. He’s very much in the loop,” Wyche said. “The Browns are just being quiet as an organization as to what they’re going to do with that top pick.’’
