Texas receiver, Lexington’s Stover choose OSU

Ohio State gained a commitment from five-star receiver Garrett Wilson, rated as the fourth-best prospect in Texas for the 2019 recruiting cycle by the 247sports composite, and from Ohio four-star linebacker Cade Stover on Sunday.

“You can make the case for Wilson being the highestrated receiver to commit to Ohio State in the (sevenyear) Urban Meyer era,” Bucknuts recruiting analyst Bill Kurelic said of Wilson, from Lake Travis High School outside Austin. The school produced 2018 OSU quarterback signee Matthew Baldwin and No. 1 NFL draft pick Baker Mayfield.

But the speedy 6-foot, 185pound Wilson and his family lived in Dublin through his sixth-grade school year before moving to Austin. He had been considered a heavy lean to OSU for a while, though Texas made a strong push.

“Recruiting is a grueling process, but god showed me the way,” Wilson wrote on Twitter. “I got unfinished business in the 614 ... I’m coming home.”

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Stover, ranked No. 8 among outside linebacker prospects nationally, lives on a farm outside Lexington. He stuck with that theme, writing “Officially a Buckeye,” on Twitter and including a video of him tossing two bales of hay into the bed of a pickup.

“I want to thank everybody for going on this journey with me, but I’m ready to take the next step,” Stover said in the video. Then he walked to a tractor, opened the door and added, “I’m staying home. Go Bucks.”

He and Wilson pushed OSU’s 2019 class to nine members, including 6-foot2, 175-pound safety Bryson Shaw from Potomac, Maryland, who committed Saturday. He had pledged to Wisconsin but changed his mind.

“I love and thank the Wisconsin community for (accepting) me,” Shaw, a three-star prospect, wrote on Twitter. “However, I need to be closer to my family. I am excited and blessed to be committing to the Ohio State University.”
