Reds falter as Brewers complete sweep

- From wire reports

The Cincinnati Reds managed just four hits, committed three errors and fell to Milwaukee 3-1 on Wednesday night, capping a three-game sweep by the Brewers before 10,346 in Great American Ball Park.

Wade Miley (1-0) pitched six effective innings for Milwaukee, allowing three hits, striking out four and walking three, and Christian Yelich hit a tiebreaking solo homer to right off the Reds' Luis Castillo in the fifth. Castillo (1-4) allowed nine hits in six innings, but he permitted just two runs. He struck out seven and walked one.

Devin Mesoraco doubled in Eugenio Suarez in the fourth, but that was it for the Reds' offense.

RED SOX 5, ROYALS 4: Mookie Betts hit three solo homers and J.D. Martinez also went deep, powering host Boston over Kansas City. It was the fourth three-homer game for Betts, 25, who snapped a tie with Hall of Famer Ted Williams for most threehomer games in franchise history. BRAVES 7, METS 0: Jacob deGrom was pulled after four dominant innings with a hyperextended right elbow, and visiting Atlanta broke out against the New York bullpen to back a stellar start by Sean Newcomb. Atlanta overtook the Mets for first place in the National League East behind seven innings of two-hit ball from Newcomb (2-1). The 24-year-old retired his final 14 batters, struck out eight and walked none. The Mets' Yoenis Cespedes snapped his glitzy necklace during a hard slide into second base in the first inning, scattering diamonds around the infield. TIGERS 3, RAYS 2, 12 INNINGS: JaCoby Jones led off the 12th inning with a triple and scored on John Hicks' bunt single, lifting host Detroit over Tampa Bay. Hicks bunted toward first and the Rays didn't have a chance to make a play at the plate after first baseman Brad Miller fielded the ball and collided with right-hander Matt Andriese (0-1). Warwick Saupold (1-0) got three outs for the win and combined with five other relievers for six scoreless innings, yielding just two hits.
